Neptune in Aries

Neptune, the planet of universality, moves into Aries, the sign of individuality, for a period of 14 years. This ingress begins a whole new cycle around the signs that Neptune will complete in 165 years.

Neptune represents homogeneity, themes that influence collective consciousness, new mindsets and trends that people adopt in their yearning for happiness and bliss. It redistributes power from the top down to the masses in matters related to the sign it goes through. Neptune also represents the larger forces of nature and fate—that which we cannot fully control. We can anticipate through Neptune’s passage that these new Aries themes will sweep through our contemporary zeitgeist.

Themes that may include:

• Questions about individual freedoms, sovereignty, and agency. Liberation battles to advance the freedom from oppression and tyranny.
• Questions about defense, survival, and protection. It can trigger aggressive reactions, yet, in its higher expression, the evolutionary intention is to foster movements of non-violent activism, and spiritual mastery of combat.
• Issues related to energy supply, through both industrial power grids and our own biological vitality. The risk of grid collapse, and incentive to research new methods, technology, and applications of energy supply. Possible advance of the vision for (free) universal energy supply.
• Inspiration to boost individual capacity, vitality, and survival strength. We can anticipate the extension of human life span, breakthroughs in enhancing creative potential, and greater personal agency. Perhaps an era of new frontiers of the self may advance humanity toward the spiritual ideal of the limitless self.
• Artistic inspiration and new forms of artistic freedom.

The disruption of power dynamics and the risk of bankruptcy

In order to advance the intentions of this transit, Neptune’s influence commonly engenders a disruption of power dynamics in order to transfer power from the top to the masses. This can typically lead to a kind of bankruptcy in industries or practices that relate to the sign that Neptune transits. The shift of power can lead to collapse for those who do not manage to adapt to the changes, or bring abundance for those who do manage to ride the new wave.

For example, Neptune in Aquarius (1998 – 2012) brought internet technology, personal computers and smart phones to the masses, but simultaneously caused the dot com bubble burst which translated into billions of dollars in losses. Similarly, air travel became ever more affordable for the masses during this time, but many airline companies went bankrupt because they could not adapt to the market changes post 9/11. (Both cyber technology and aviation are ruled by Aquarius).

Neptune in Pisces (2012-2025) brought awareness to the forefront of humanity’s unsustainable exploitation of natural resources and ecological collapse engendered by human pollution, excessive consumption, and climate change, the bankruptcy of natural resources and eco-systems.

Neptune in Aries: Bankruptcy of Freedom or Bankruptcy of War?

In the early stages of Neptune in Aries (2025), we witness the first signs of bankruptcy of individual freedoms (Aries). The United States administration, an initial leader in human rights and haven for refugees under the Aries-type slogan Land of the Free, Home of the Brave, circumvented due process in deporting legal and illegal immigrants and even some US citizens deemed dissidents—what many perceived as an alarming breach of civil rights.

In the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, military defense and oppression of Palestinians have reached an unprecedented level of dehumanization with aggressive military attack, deprivation of aid and food supply. We witness basic freedoms eradicated, a large number of civilians losing their right to be and exist, with many rendered invisible, erased, and silenced. Similarly, Israeli and foreign nation hostages held by terror group Hamas in underground tunnels, dehumanized as pawns on a chess board game—individual lives sacrificed, forgotten, and martyred. Neptune in Aries at its worst can represent the loss of human autonomy and freedom to exist. But this in turn can engender liberation battles, and in its highest form: non-violent (Neptune) battles (Aries).

The spiritual art of combat in different martial art practices captures what may seem like an impossible fusion between universal unifying consciousness with the acknowledgment of the necessity for defense and protection. We learn to discern danger through Aries. Through  Neptune, we remember that we were are all one, including nemeses. This influence brings forth the bravery of facing off adversity for the greater good.

These individuals become soldiers of Truth, or spiritual warriors; yet, without attachment and self-righteousness. As the attachment to both pacifism and combat dissolves, they are able to appropriately respond to whatever the moment demands. Hence, the apparent distinction between victim and oppressor dissolves as it becomes clear that each one of us plays both of these roles in turn—dedication to Truth is beyond duality.

The intent of Neptune in Aries is to bankrupt war, unless the battles serves the greater whole. The ideal of non-violent change was spearheaded by Mohandas Gandhi, himself born with Neptune in Aries. He moved mountains (the British empire) through intense conviction, activism, and determination (Aries attributes).

Neptune in Aries 1861 to 1875

Neptune’s previous ingress in Aries occurred in 1861 on the eve of the American Civil War, resulting ultimately in the abolition of slavery; the Emancipation Proclamation that followed in 1863 gave civil rights to those who, until then, were mercilessly exploited, erased, made invisible, and silenced. Righteous battles can be both aggressive or non-violent, but the ultimate Neptune in Aries intention and mandate is to advance individual freedoms on a mass scale.

In  the USA, freedom from tyranny inspired the foundation of the National Rifle Association (NRA) under Neptune in Aries (1871) with the aim to support and lobby for the right for every US citizen to bear arms (Second Amendment to the Constitution) as a means of defense and protection against a tyrannical government. While arguably, these privileges have been abused over time, and regulations need updating, the decentralization of power granting individuals means of self-defense and access to weapons, is very à propos of Neptune in Aries. We can anticipate both abuses and progress in this regard, and new developments (worldwide) about individual defense in the course of the current Neptune in Aries transit.

Current Context: Neptune in Aries

Accordingly, the once fringe “prepper” culture is becoming increasingly mainstream. Common citizens are taking preparation into their own hands, with more people are training to respond to apocalyptic scenarios. Whether in response to the risk for political tyranny or a global shutdown caused by natural disasters, military-type training for civilians is surging alongside this transit. People are taking it on themselves to go beyond target shooting, preparing for large-scale rescue operations, off-grid living, long-term bunker access, and defense strategies.

Neptune’s evolutionary intention in Aries is to free the oppressed and return personal sovereignty, but it may first exacerbate authoritarianism for that very purpose. In the current context, we can anticipate that liberation movements for the Palestinian people will gain traction and momentum during the next 14 years, and a formal Palestinian state to be eventually formalized.

Similarly, perhaps the people of Iran’s long battle for liberation from the current oppressive regime–itself established under an Aries Sun (April 1, 1979)—will finally succeed.

A surge in liberation movements can occur anywhere on the globe where oppressed and disenfranchised people rise to reclaim “their right to be,” echoing this broader drive for self-determination (Aries).

Neptune (along with Saturn) in Aries may initially increase political and social polarization and prompt more separatist movements around the globe. In the context of the United States, as during the Civil War, individual states may rebel more aggressively against the Federal government, and possibly prompt a surge of secessionist ideologies. If the urge to advance individual freedoms is met with authoritarianism, separatism will increase.

POWER SUPPLY

With increasing aggressive natural disasters and greater burden on existing grid systems, the eventuality of a power-supply shutdown is a significant risk with Neptune in Aries. Moreover, the rise of AI technology already intensifies electricity demand to unprecedented levels. Urgent measures and innovations in power supply are needed to support the course and growth of civilization.

If Neptune in Aries opens the prospect of the limitless self, the need to power this growing creative potential becomes ever more relevant and urgent. The 19^th century inventor Nikolai Tesla who researched the availability of unlimited supply of universal energy to provide free electricity, had Jupiter in Aries conjunct the North Node in his 12^th House—a signature that is thematically parallel to Neptune in Aries. Tesla was eventually silenced and marginalized by his contemporaries—a setback of this same signature in his chart.

May 2025 – yet to be confirmed: Australian engineers have built a heat engine that runs on nothing but light—and it may rewrite the rules of thermodynamics. Using nanoscale materials that absorb and convert photons directly into motion, this engine produces mechanical energy without needing fuel or heat exchangers.

Will human capacity and longevity expand during Neptune in Aries? Technology and science, space exploration, artificial intelligence, and other resources yet unknown, may play a role in far reaching revelations about our potential and powers. This transit will likely unveil a paradox of weakness versus strength—the risk of losing vitality compounded with the simultaneous opportunity to multiply it. Will rejuvenation, or other forms of “super-human-ness” become accessible to the masses? Similarly, will we see successful methods to bring animals back from the brink of extinction, or as technology seems to already exist, resurrect extinct species? Will humans be resurrected from the dead for an experience of their limitless selves? Questions about who gets a boost of vitality and who disappears can be on the forefront of this transit.

ART and NEPTUNE in ARIES

As humanity navigates the intensity of transformation—both biological and technological—art becomes another frontier of renewal. The surge of creativity can apply to artistic expression. The last Neptune in Aries transit galvanized the Impressionist movement in fine arts, freeing painters to adopt more flexible brushwork and expand the range of subjects. Artists departed from religious themes and formal portraiture, turning instead to the greater simplicity of nature, with vibrancy of colors, and variations of light. The current Neptune in Aries is bound to enhance creativity and the arts.

Neptune and Saturn in Aries (July 2025 and February 2026)

As Saturn ingresses into Aries along with Neptune, the two planets conjoin at the zero Aries degree, the inception birth point of the zodiac. The Saturn-Neptune cycle is roughly 37 years long, but this meeting on such a critical degree can have much further reaching impact.

Neptune naturally erodes the solidity of Saturn, the same way ocean waves gradually dissolve boulders. This can translate into the dismantling of existing institutions and the collapse of regimes long considered to be infallible—what was once strong and resistant can show signs of frailty and altogether collapse. The erosion of Saturn symbols can, in most extreme scenarios, engender the fall of titans, lawlessness, or blatant corruption—”everything goes” as regulations and order lose hold.

As firm boundaries erode, we can anticipate the emergence of new boundaries, new frontiers and borders, and likely new countries, prompting the re-drawing of world maps.

The preceding conjunction between Neptune and Saturn occurred in 1989 in Capricorn, at the time of the Soviet Union’s collapse, including the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. It brought the end of the Apartheid regime in South Africa, and subsequent release of Nelson Mandela as a political prisoner.

Earlier, in 1953, as Neptune was conjunct Saturn in Libra, we saw a time of considerable political instability and reorganizing when titan Soviet dictator Josef Stalin died of a stroke; and Queen Elizabeth II was crowned, to become the longest reigning monarch of the United Kingdom. The old guard relinquished their hold to pave the way for new leaders and movements.

The Russian/Soviet movement has been considerably responsive to the astrological Saturn/Neptune cycle, prompting us to anticipate dramatic development, even a possible collapse of Putin’s regime.

As mentioned previously in this chapter, the last ingress of Neptune into Aries in 1861 saw the unfolding of the Civil War in the United States, when the Southern states refused to abolish slavery and sought to secede from the Union. Their failure to align themselves with progress and accept the new paradigm caused their catastrophic defeat and the eventual birth of a new era in the United States.

In our current times, Neptune with Saturn in Aries may initially increase political and social polarization and prompt more separatist movements around the globe. In the context of the United States, as during the Civil War, individual states may rebel more aggressively against the Federal government, and possibly prompt a surge of secessionist ideologies. If the urge to advance individual freedoms is met with authoritarianism, separatism will increase.

As astrologers, we understand the core themes and inherent dynamics represented by planets, and Neptune in particular. Each planet carries a specific evolutionary intentions and mode of activation. And while we acknowledge the fated nature that the planets represent, we also recognize our free will—both personal and collective—in how we navigate these influences. This leaves the door open for how these cycles can be activated. Despite the potential for profound challenges, and even destruction, we must realize in a deeply Neptunian way that beyond our blind spots and illusions, humanity is ultimately seeking betterment, harmony, and well-being. If love were not stronger than hate, we would have vanished long ago.
